How to Get Rid of Paint Stains

After successfully completing painting the walls of the room the last thing you would not want to spend time on is cleaning the paint spills on the carpet. Let us check how to clean the carpet with pain spill effectively and quickly.

  • When accident like paint spills on the carpet, it is very important to act quickly. If the paint dries then it would stain the carpet and leave color on the carpet. Surround the paper towels or clothes and then blot up much as possible ensuring not to rub the stain. Test the carpet cleaner in any hidden spot in the carpet before applying. And then clean the stained area of the carpet. If the some small dried paint pieces remain stuck to the carpet, then cut them off carefully with scissors.
  • To remove the acrylic paint from carpet use glycerin drops on the stain and then gently blot it up. Remove the remaining paint using rubbing alcohol, then with water and a mild detergent. Absorb the stain with sponge and vacuum it till dry.
  • Oil paints spillage result in permanent stain. If the stain is left unattended, then it gets dried and discoloration of the carpet starts. Use turpentine or mineral spirit on the stain to remove it. If the oil paint has dried, use turpentine too make the stain soluble again and then blot it up with paper towels. Use rubbing alcohol to remove the residue and finally wash it with mild detergent and water. Remove the water using sponge and thoroughly dry the carpet.
  • To clean the latex paint spills can be done by solution prepared using one teaspoon alkali and bleach free detergent mixed with one cup of warm water. Apply the solution to the stain and blot repeating till the paint stain is removed.
  • Water based paint stain can spread quickly. Tip is to use too less water to clean the carpet. Make a mixture of water and vinegar to blot the stain from the carpet and then use mild detergent to clean remaining paint and rinse with clean water.
  • To remove the dried spots of pain on the carpet it takes time. But it is possible. Use a putty knife or razor to remove the paints as much as possible. Then spray WD-40 on the stain and let it sit for 20 minutes. Blot the area to remove the moisture. Then remove the loose paints with fingers and tweezers. Clean the stained area with detergent, rinse with clean water and dry the carpet.
  • And finally if the entire can of paint has spilled over the carpet, the best way is to soak up as much as paint using a cloth and then cover the area the stained area with wet cloth so that the stain does not get dried up. Cleaning the larger area of the stain is not easy and getting a help from professional carpet cleaner is the best solution.
