Have You Cleaned These 5 Things This Summer?

Spring cleaning is a common concept, but should deep cleaning be limited just to one season? Probably not.

Here are 5 things to focus on cleaning this summer, and if you don’t have the time to clean them yourself, simply hire a cleaning company to do it for you:

1.Your /C filter and fan

When your air conditioning unit’s filter is clogged and dirty, not only will this force it to recirculate dirty air throughout your home, but it won’t work as efficiently either. A system that has to work harder will likely result in an increase in your electricity bill, and may even cause costly wear and tear.

Replace dirty filters regularly (and if you’re not sure when to do this, you can hire a technician to assess the entire system) and hose off the outside fan to remove dust and debris.

2.Your ceiling fans

Dirty ceiling fan blades simply spread dirt and dust all over your home, and can even exacerbate allergy symptoms, particularly in the summer months. With a clean pillow case, place one over each blade in turn and pull it towards you to minimize dust and dirt falling onto the floor or furniture. This is a horrible job and awkward job for most, so don’t be afraid to hire a cleaning company to get this done for you.

3.The refrigerator

Refrigerators, if not regularly cleaned and divulged of expired food, can quickly become breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. Make sure you thoroughly clean the fridge at least once every few months, and more often if there have been food spillages or the fridge is used by multiple occupants of the home. Most of the refrigerator can be cleaned using warm, soapy water, and once finished, spray the insides and door with a 1:1 combination of vinegar and water to kill mold spores and prevent germs from building up in the future.

4.The freezer

Now this is something that many households definitely neglect to do, but it’s important to keep your freezer hygienically clean, even if that means cleaning it once a year. Get rid of expired frozen items and clean stains and spillages with warm, soapy water.

5.Your garbage disposal

While you might not suffer from a pongy garbage disposal during the cooler, winter months, summer can really ripen the aroma up! Fortunately, you can get your garbage disposal squeaky clean and smelling fresh again with a natural solution of a half cup of baking soda poured down the disposal, followed by a cup of white vinegar. Once the mixture has bubbled for around 10 minutes, run hot water to clear it out completely, and use a toothbrush to clean under and around the rubber flange if necessary.

So, while summer might be a time for BBQ’s and pool parties, it should also be a time for cleaning. But, if you’d rather be enjoying the warm weather and sunshine than scrubbing and sweating inside your home, it might be more convenient to hire a cleaning company to get the jobs done for you instead.
