Weather: Wait for the right weather to start painting. During humidity it will be difficult for the paint to dry. But the advantage of painting when it is humid is that because of slow drying, any corrections on the errors can be done. Summer time helps in quick drying.
Shopping: Make a list of things that you would need to complete the task. Check for different options available, the cost of the products and finalize on shopping list. Good brushes and roller covers are important for painting. Use good quality painters tape to seal the drips and blurs.
Remove gadgets and lightings: Remove all the removable things in the room to avoid painting them too. Cover the gadgets that cannot be removed with plastic or cloth sheets to avoid damage.
Cover the things in the room before painting: Spend some time to cover the
things like the furniture, floor, hardware, corners of the windows, door knobs
etc in the room before starting to paint. Cover the things with cloths, plastic
covers and tapes
Do your study: Check for the cracks, fakes or peelings on the wall and lightly sand or scrap the area before applying primer and pain. Otherwise the weight of new paint will pull the old coat loose. Wash the areas with grease spot with soap and clean will water. Give walls a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to make it clean and dust free before starting to paint. Use filler for any cracks
and holes. Let the filler dry.
Use primer: If the wall is getting painted after a long time or if the surface has patches or peelings use primer first. It gives a consistent base coat for paint.
Choosing the right paint color: Before fixing a color to be painted on the wall, paint different color options on white paper. Then stick them on the wall using masking tape, stand back and see which one look the best, taking the whole room into account. Similarly take in to account the mood and need of the particular color in the room, the decor accessories that go with it and the furniture.
Roller: Use good quality roller. Use extension pole on the roller so that you can reach the maximum amount of area with the least effort and straining your back. First use the brush to paint eh edges of the ceiling and baseboard. Then use the roller to apply the paint
Paint from top to bottom: Paint from top to bottom. Once the area starts to dry do not make any additional changes. Painting the area back again may leave marks and color streaks in the paint surface.
