Pressure Washing Tips

There are some important tips that we need to ensure to do while doing pressure washing. Safety tips is what we prefer to call them.

  • While pressure washing the house or the pavement or any area in the house, expect that you will get wet.
  • Ensure to have some bona fide eye protection to protect the eyes from the pressure at which it will fly out of the want. The high pressure of the water can have the power to even chip off the bits of brick, rock and wood that would shoot at the eye.
  • Don’t point the power washer at any person or pets. The pressure of the washer would cause injury.
  • The gardening gloves will get wet and will be harder to remove from the hand once the work is done. Ensure to wear protective heavy duty gloves.
  • Also wear the right shoes, heavy duty boots are the best. The pressure of the water can get right through the shoes and badly injure the feet.
  • Everyone knows that water is the best conductor of electricity. So if you have the electric power washer, use a heavy duty extension cord. Be extremely careful while washing around the electrical service line – the lines that connect the house to the telephone pole. Wash gingerly around the cable and telephone lines, electric or gas meter. In case there are any outdoor outlets, tape them with the electric tapes.
  • Avoid using ladder. The washer could recoil and the chances of you falling down are high. Use scaffold instead, which could help you to reach the second floor using an extension wand without much problem.

How to wash using the pressure washer

Read the owner’s manual to confirm the proper usage of the pressure washer. The first step of pressure washing is connecting the water source or the hose to the machine. Make sure the hose is long enough to cover the entire corner of the house. Inter connecting two or more hoses is the best. A helper can follow behind to hold onto and maneuver the house.

The pressure washer will have different types of nozzles, with different degree of angle. The higher the angle, the more area we can cover for washing.

Some tips about selecting nozzle are –

  • Never use 0-degree nozzle as it can damage the siding.
  • The experts suggest 15 or 25 degree nozzle for general cleaning of the house.
  • 40 degree nozzle is the best for cleaning the exterior of the house. It covers a wide area and provides power to remove the dirt.
  • 65 –degree is the gentler nozzle.
  • Power washer comes with rotary nozzle which spins and is used to remove tough stains.
  • Referring the manual is the best, again. Select the right nozzle.

Make sure that the nozzle is securely fastened to the wand. Shut the windows and doors of the house to ensure water is not entering inside the house and making it extra work to clean inside the house as well.
