Cleaning Windows Like a Pro

Windows are one of the most difficult spaces of the house to be cleaned. Fingerprints, dog nose prints, watermarks, dust, and dirt get accumulated on the windows easily. It is important to clean the windows at least twice in a year in order to live a healthy environment, especially if you have kids at home.

Clean windows on a cloudy day, this is because the sun can heat up windows which will result in the  cleaning solution getting dry easily and leave streaks and water spots before you can wipe it clean.

Here is a simple way to clean the window like a pro with easily available materials:

  • Glass cleaner or white vinegar –

    Glass cleaner can be either brought from the store or it can be made at home. Vinegar can also be used to clean the windows. Vinegar is the best medium for cleaning anything from microwave to clogging drains house. A homemade solution can be made by using one part hot water mixed to one part of white vinegar or mixing dishwashing liquid and warm water.

  • Paper towels, newspapers, or a lint-free cloth –

    It is best not to use an absorbent paper towel or cloth which is treated with any fabric softener. Using the absorbent paper towel or clothes treated with fabric softener will leave lint on the windows. Untreated towels, newspapers or lint-free cloth can be used to spread the solution on the window. Old unused cotton diapers can also be used.

  • Soft-bristle brush –

  • Towel or sponge –

    towels to avoid up spills on the window sills and floor

Direction to clean the windows:
  • Clean the window to make sure there isn’t any dirt, dust or cobwebs using a soft bristle brush.
  • Lay the towel along the window sills and floor to catch any accidental drips. This makes the final cleaning process easier.
  • Wet the sponge in the cleaning solution that you have prepared and rub-down the glass.
  • Use sponge brush dipped in the solution to clean the places where it is hard to reach like window tracts. But if your window tracks are difficult to wipe, use a solution of baking soda and vinegar mixture to clean it. Let the mixture stay in the dirt for 5-10 minutes and then the grime can be wiped off.
  • And then use the untreated paper towel, newspaper or lint-free cloth like a microfiber cloth to wipe the glass. Exert some pressure while wiping down the dirt and solution to clean the windows. Continue wiping until the dirt is removed.
  • And to clean the top of the window where you not reach without the ladder, use mop wrapped with a paper towel. Spray the solution on the paper towel and rub the mob against the window. Easy!

Finally, wipe down the window frame with a damp cloth. Water and all-purpose cleaner can also be used to clean in the final round and wipe them to make to dry.
