Ensure to clean the water and maintain the balance of water chemistry. Set a routine to clean the pool every week. Test the pH and the chlorine level in the pool water and do the shock treatment accordingly. Regular shock treatment solves and prevents major issues in the pool. Shock treatment can be done when any of the following issues occur –
- After heavy rains and windstorms
- When the usage of the pool is more than usual
- Foul odor from the pool water
- When there is an extreme change in temperatures
- When the burning or redness of the eyes
- When you notice algae growth
- When the water looks murky and slimy
Safety use of the chemical in the pool
There are chemicals available in the market to solve most of the water problems. But, using chemicals can be dangerous to the person using the pool. Chemicals may cause damage to eyes – such as redness and itching of the eyes, skin irritation and would even be fatal. So to ensure the safety of the individual, ensure to follow the pool chemical safety precautions such as –
- Ensure to put all pool products away from children and animals.
- Make sure to wear rubber gloves and goggles while cleaning the pool,
- Wash clothes and hands immediately after chemicals treatment is done.
- When the skin comes in contact accidentally with any chemicals, flush the eyes immediately with cold water for 15 minutes
- It is important to follow the dosage directions and safety precautions listed on the pool product label.
- Store chemicals safely as mentioned in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Never put back the spilled material to the original container as it is extremely harmful.
- Use clean and dry measuring equipment for different chemicals. Wash all measuring equipment after usage.
- Never mix spa, pool or household chemicals or put them in the same container
- Add chemicals to water; never add water to chemicals. (Adding water to chemicals contaminates the entire container.)
- Never allow dry chlorine to become damp or wet.
- Ensure to keep the chemicals away from fire.
- Never use the empty containers of the pool chemicals.
- Ensure to dispose of the empty chemical containers as instructed by the local or federal regulation.
- Don’t reuse empty containers. Check with local, state, and federal regulations for proper disposal.
Throw away any unused chemicals if closing the pool and buy new chemicals when the pool is reopened.
