Carpets are used to give an attractive look to any room, especially the living room and bedroom. Carpets get dirty and stained easily due to spillages, pet accidents and allergen. Cleaning the stained carpet is the most difficult part of cleaning the floor.
There are thousands of different chemicals available in the market to clean the carpet. But using natural, organic chemicals is much safer than market bought stuffs to clean them. It is easier to make the liquid solution carpet cleaner with materials that are easily available at home.
Materials required:
Salt
Borax
White vinegar
Vacuum cleaner
Carpet steam cleaner
Step by step instructions on carpet cleaning
1. Vacuum the carpet to remove the bigger dust particles. Take time to vacuum clean the carpet for 3-4 times to remove as much as dust, hair and bigger particles to be removed.
2. Using blunt tool like a knife, scrap away hard sticky particles on the carpet carefully.
3. Use the lint roller to remove the hair, dust, pet hair and fiber materials on the carpet. Lint roller removes the long fibers on the carpet much easily compared to the vacuum cleaner.
4. Make the cleaning solution by mixing salt, borax and vinegar in equal quantity.
5. Apply the paste on the carpet and let it sit for several hours until the solution dries completely.
6. Then vacuum again the carpet to remove the dirt and dried solution.
7. Now, use steam cleaner to clean the carpet. Steam cleaner machine is available for rent. Use hot water and not boiling water to wash the dirt. Fill the steamer machine with really hot water. While using steam clear
machine adding chemical is optional. But to remove the extremely hard soiled carpet add 1 cup of vinegar for deep cleaning.
8. First release the hot water from the machine to lean the carpet surface and then the use the sucking mode to pull the water back up.
9. Do this step 4-5 times to ensure through cleaning is done. Soak the carpet and then dry the carpet as much as possible each time.
10. Let the carpet dry completely.
11. Once the carpet is mostly dry, furniture can be moved and placed on the carpet. But putting aluminum foil under the legs help to avoid any stain bleeding from the furniture to the wet carpet.
12. Try not to walk on the carpet until it is completely dry. This help in avoiding staining the carpet again.
Instead of using salt/borax and vinegar solution, also try other combinations to make carpet cleaner solutions such as:
1. 15 drops of Essential oil/2 table spoon salt/1 cup vinegar/2 cup water
2. 2 table spoon liquid detergent/1/4 all purpose cleaner/1 scoop oxi- clean/ 1 table spoon fabric softener/1 Gallon hot water
3. 5 drops of essential oil/3/4 cup hydrogen peroxide/ 1 ½ cups of water
Whichever the solution is, the trick is spending enough time to vacuum clean and then use the steamer cleaner 4-5 times to ensure deep cleaning. Ensure to dry the carpet completely before usage to keep the carpet clean for a longer time.
