Tips on Cleaning Wallpaper

Wallpaper is one of the popular options to add color, texture, and pattern to any wall of the living room, bedroom, or even kids’ room. But as beautiful as the wallpaper is, it also gets naturally dusty and dirty over some time. And it would be cleaned with utmost care as the design should not be damaged in the process of cleaning it. Keep reading to find the easy tips to clean the wallpapers –

  • Dust the surface

Remove all the wall hanging and wall arts, photo frames from the wall and move the furniture away from the wall. And even before using any cleaning solution on the wallpaper, make sure to dust the wallpaper thoroughly. Wipe down the wallpaper with a duster or soft microfiber cloth to brush away the dust and dirt without scratching the paper. Ensure that the frames-work and the corners are cleaned properly as the dust tends to get gathered there.

  • Spot cleaning

After dusting the surface of the wallpaper, look at the wallpaper to access the smudges and mark on the wallpaper. It the smudges and marks are lesser, spot cleaning is the easier and smarter option to clean the wallpaper. Never use abrasive cleaners on wallpaper. Instead, use a little bit of dish soap mixed in warm water and use a little of the mixture to scrub the wall. But even before starting to clean the wallpaper, ensure to test the cleaning method in an inconspicuous area of the wallpaper to ensure that the chemical does not damage the finish of the wallpaper.

If the wallpaper is not able to hold the moisture of the dish wash solution, spot cleaning the wallpaper with dough is another option. Pull a bit of wallpaper dough from the container and use the hands to roll it to make a ball, knead the dough to make dough eraser. The dough eraser can be rolled over the area on the wallpaper where the dirt or fingerprints are spotted and the grime should lift away. Wallpaper dough is extremely helpful when cleaning the textured wallpaper and surfaces with more grooves.

  • Washing the wall

The wallpaper is available in crafted or vinyl form and not the paper one which can hold up the moisture more easily. Cleaning the vinyl wallpaper is easier as the water and soap solution can be used on it without damaging it.

When wiping the down the entire wall, use a soft sponge that is wetted with water and dish soap. And use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the extra moisture on the wallpaper surface. It the dishwater soap solution is not cleaning the dirt on the wallpaper try using vinegar and water solution to clean the wallpaper.

  • Cleaning the door and trim

When the wallpaper is cleaned, and the dirt and dust are removed from it, it is important to clean the dirty crown molding, baseboard, and door trim which will stand out. Use the dish wash solution or vinegar-water solution to clean the trim and doors.

This would make the entire wall look clean and refreshed.
